Show the parts of the tabernacleGod's dwelling among His people

God gives Moses detailed instructions for building the tabernacle—a portable sanctuary where God could dwell in the midst of His people. Each element carried deep symbolic meaning and pointed forward to Christ.

Gifts from the People

Gold, silver, bronze, blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, fine linen, goat hair, red-dyed ram skins, badger skins, acacia wood, oil, spices, and precious stones.

The Ark of the Covenant

A chest made of acacia wood, measuring 2.5 by 1.5 by 1.5 cubits, overlaid with pure gold inside and out. The tablets of the covenant were to be kept here.

The Mercy Seat

A cover made of pure gold with two cherubim facing each other, their wings spread out over the cover. Here God would meet with Moses.

The Table of Showbread

A table made of acacia wood overlaid with gold, with plates, bowls, pitchers, and cups. The twelve loaves of showbread were to always stand before the Lord.

The Seven-Branched Lampstand

A lampstand (menorah) made of pure gold with seven branches, decorated with almond blossoms. It symbolizes God's light and presence.

The LORD said to Moses:

Tell the Israelites to take up an offering for me. You are to receive my offering from everyone whose heart moves him to give.

This is the offering you are to receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze;

blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goat hair;

ram skins dyed red, fine leather, and acacia wood;

oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;

onyx stones and other stones to be set in the ephod and the breastpiece.

Have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.

Make it exactly according to everything I show you—the pattern of the dwelling and the pattern of all its furnishings.

They are to make an ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.

Overlay it with pure gold, inside and out, and make a gold molding around it.

Cast four gold rings for it and fasten them to its four feet, two rings on one side and two on the other.

Make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

Insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, so the ark can be carried with them.

The poles are to remain in the rings of the ark; they must not be removed.

Then place in the ark the testimony that I will give you.

Make an atonement cover of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.

Make two cherubim of hammered gold at the two ends of the cover.

Make one cherub at one end and the second at the other end; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at its two ends.

The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. They are to face each other, looking toward the cover.

Place the cover on top of the ark, and put in the ark the testimony that I will give you.

There I will meet with you, and from above the cover, from between the two cherubim over the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about everything I command you concerning the Israelites.

Make a table of acacia wood, two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high.

Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it.

Make a rim a handbreadth wide around it, with a gold molding around the rim.

Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners, where the four legs are.

The rings are to be close to the rim, to hold the poles for carrying the table.

Make the poles of acacia wood, overlay them with gold, and use them to carry the table.

Make its plates and dishes, its pitchers and its bowls for pouring drink offerings; make them all of pure gold.

And set the bread of the Presence on the table before me at all times.

Make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand is to be hammered out of one piece—its base and shaft, its cups, buds, and blossoms all of one piece with it.

Six branches are to extend from its sides, three on one side and three on the other.

Three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with bud and blossom, are to be on one branch, and three on the next branch—the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand.

On the lampstand itself there are to be four cups shaped like almond blossoms, with their buds and blossoms.

A bud is to be under the first pair of branches extending from it, a bud under the second pair, and a bud under the third pair—for all six branches extending from the lampstand.

The buds and branches are to be of one piece with the lampstand—all of it one hammered work of pure gold.

Make its seven lamps and set them up so that they light the space in front of it.

Its wick trimmers and trays are to be of pure gold.

A talent of pure gold is to be used for the lampstand and all these utensils.

See that you make them according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.

The detailed description of almond-shaped buds (meshukadim) on the menorah (vv. 33-34) may hold symbolic significance, since "almond" (shaked) is linked in a Hebrew wordplay to "watching" or "being awake" (shoqed).
