The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.

This is what the LORD says: Look, waters are rising from the north; they will become a flooding torrent, sweeping over the land and all that fills it, over the city and those who live in it. The people will cry out, and everyone living in the land will wail.

At the sound of the pounding hooves of his stallions, at the roar of his chariots, the rumble of his wheels, fathers will not turn back for their children—their hands hang limp—

because the day is coming to devastate all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every last ally. For the LORD is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor.

Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon lies silenced. You who remain in the valley, how long will you gash yourself?

Ah, sword of the LORD, how long until you rest? Return to your sheath; be still and quiet.

How can you rest, when the LORD has given the command? Against Ashkelon and against the seacoast—there he has appointed it.
