PsalmsChapter 69

For the choirmaster. To the tune of "Lilies." Of David.
Save me, O God, for the waters have risen to my neck.
I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold. I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me.
I am worn out from crying for help; my throat is raw. My eyes fail as I wait for my God.
Those who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head. Many are those who would destroy me, my enemies who lie about me. They demand I repay what I never stole.
O God, you know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you.
Let not those who hope in you be put to shame because of me, O Lord GOD of hosts. Let not those who seek you be disgraced because of me, O God of Israel.
For I bear reproach for your sake, and shame covers my face.
I have become a stranger to my brothers, a foreigner to my mother's sons.
For zeal for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.
When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.
When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.
Those who sit at the gate talk about me, and I am the song of the drunkards.
But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At the time you favor, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me with your faithful salvation.
Rescue me from the mire; do not let me sink. Deliver me from those who hate me, and from the deep waters.
Let not the flood sweep over me, or the depths swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good; in the greatness of your mercy, turn to me.
Do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly.
Draw near to me and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies.
You know my reproach, my shame, my disgrace; all my foes are before you.
Reproach has broken my heart, and I am beyond healing. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.
They put poison in my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Let their table before them become a snare, and their feasting a trap.
Let their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and make their loins tremble without end.
Pour out your indignation upon them; let your burning anger overtake them.
Let their camp be laid waste; let no one dwell in their tents.
For they hound the one you have struck down, and they talk of the pain of those you have wounded.
Charge them with guilt upon guilt; let them not come into your righteousness.
Let them be blotted out of the book of life; let them not be enrolled among the righteous.
But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, lift me high.
I will praise the name of God with song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with horns and hooves.
The humble will see it and be glad. You who seek God, let your hearts revive!
For the LORD hears the needy, and does not despise his own who are in chains.
Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them.
For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah; and they will settle there and take possession of it.
The children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
