Show the ten plaguesGod's judgment on Egypt

God sent ten plagues upon Egypt to free Israel from slavery. Each plague struck at Egyptian gods and demonstrated the Lord's power.

Water Turned to Blood

The Nile and all the water in Egypt turned to blood. The fish died, and the water stank.

Frogs

Frogs came up from the Nile and filled the whole land—even the beds and ovens.

Gnats

All the dust in the land turned into gnats that plagued people and animals.

Flies

Swarms of flies filled Egypt, but not Goshen where the Israelites lived.

Livestock Disease

All Egyptian livestock died, but not one of the Israelites' animals was harmed.

Boils

Boils broke out on people and animals throughout Egypt.

Hail

Severe hail mixed with fire struck down everything in the fields.

Locusts

Locusts covered the whole land and ate everything that the hail had spared.

Darkness

Thick darkness for three days—so dense it could be felt. But the Israelites had light.

Death of the Firstborn

All the firstborn in Egypt died, from Pharaoh's son to the prisoner's son. The Passover lamb protected Israel.

The LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.
You are to speak everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his land.
But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt,
Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt, and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring my divisions, my people the Israelites, out of the land of Egypt.
And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them."
Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.
"When Pharaoh says to you, 'Perform a wonder,' say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, and it will become a serpent.'"
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a serpent.
Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians did the same thing by their secret arts.
Each one threw down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.
Yet Pharaoh's heart grew hard, and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he is going out to the water. Stand and wait for him on the bank of the Nile, and take in your hand the staff that turned into a snake.
Say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to tell you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness. But until now you have not listened.
This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD. Watch: with the staff in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will turn to blood.
The fish in the Nile will die, the river will stink, and the Egyptians will not be able to bear drinking water from the Nile.'"
The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers and canals, their ponds and all their reservoirs—and they will turn to blood.' There will be blood everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels of wood and stone."
Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded. In the sight of Pharaoh and his officials, Aaron raised the staff and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water in the river turned to blood.
The fish in the Nile died, the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink its water. There was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
But the Egyptian magicians did the same thing by their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart grew hard. He would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he paid no attention to this either.
And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile for water to drink, because they could not drink the water of the river.
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.
If you refuse to let them go, I am about to plague your whole territory with frogs.
The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up and go into your palace, into your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and your people, into your ovens and your kneading troughs.
