My son, do not forget my teaching; let your heart keep my commands.

For they will add to you length of days, years of life, and peace.

Do not let steadfast love and faithfulness leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Then you will find favor and a good name in the sight of God and of people.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil.

It will be healing for your flesh and refreshment for your bones.

Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first of all your produce.

Then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will burst with new wine.

My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline, and do not resent his correction.

For the LORD corrects the one he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.

For gaining her is better than gaining silver, and her yield better than fine gold.

She is more precious than jewels; nothing you desire can compare with her.

Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast are blessed.

By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundation; by understanding he established the heavens.

By his knowledge the deeps were split open, and the clouds drip with dew.

My son, do not let them out of your sight: keep sound judgment and discretion.

They will be life for your soul and an ornament for your neck.

Then you will walk your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.

Do not fear sudden terror, or the destruction that overtakes the wicked when it comes.

For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from the snare.

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, come back tomorrow, and I will give it"—when you already have it with you.

Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustingly beside you.

Do not quarrel with anyone without cause, when he has done you no harm.

Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways.

For the LORD detests the devious, but he takes the upright into his confidence.

The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.

Toward the mockers he is scornful, but to the humble he gives grace.

The wise inherit honor, but fools display their disgrace.
