Look—a king will reign in righteousness, and rulers will govern with justice.
Each will be like a shelter from the wind, a hiding place from the storm, like streams of water in a dry land, like the shade of a great rock in a weary country.
Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen.
The reckless heart will gain understanding, and the stammering tongue will speak clearly and readily.
No longer will the fool be called noble, nor the scoundrel be spoken of as generous.
For the fool speaks folly, and his heart plots evil: to practice godlessness and to utter error concerning the LORD, to leave the hungry empty and to withhold drink from the thirsty.
The scoundrel's methods are wicked; he devises schemes to destroy the poor with lying words, and to deny justice to the needy.
But the noble man devises noble things, and he stands by what is noble.
You women who are at ease, rise up and hear my voice; you complacent daughters, listen to what I say.
In a year and some days you will tremble, you who feel secure, for the grape harvest will fail and the ingathering will not come.
Shudder, you women at ease; tremble, you who feel secure. Strip yourselves bare and put on sackcloth around your waists.
Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine,
for the soil of my people, overgrown with thorns and briers—yes, for all the joyful houses and the jubilant city.
For the palace is abandoned, the bustling city deserted; citadel and watchtower have become dens forever, the delight of wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks—
until the Spirit is poured out on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest.
Then justice will dwell in the desert, and righteousness will make its home in the fertile field.
The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the work of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.
My people will live in peaceful dwellings, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.
Though hail comes down and the forest falls, and the city is leveled to the ground,
blessed are you who sow beside all the waters, who let the ox and the donkey range free.
