The allotment for the tribe of Judah, clan by clan, reached to the border of Edom, to the Wilderness of Zin in the far south.
Their southern boundary began at the end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that faces south,
ran south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, continued on to Zin, went up south of Kadesh Barnea, passed by Hezron up to Addar, and curved around to Karka.
From there it passed on to Azmon and came out at the Wadi of Egypt, ending at the sea. This shall be your southern boundary.
The eastern boundary was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The northern boundary began at the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan,
went up to Beth Hoglah, passed north of Beth Arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
Then it climbed to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turned north to Gilgal, which faces the Ascent of Adummim south of the ravine, and continued on to the waters of En Shemesh, coming out at En Rogel.
From there it ran up the Valley of Ben Hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusite city—that is, Jerusalem—and on to the top of the hill west of the Hinnom Valley, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.
From the hilltop the boundary bent toward the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, ran out to the towns of Mount Ephron, and bent toward Baalah, that is, Kiriath Jearim.
Then it curved west from Baalah to Mount Seir, ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim—that is, Kesalon—went down to Beth Shemesh and crossed to Timnah.
It went on to the northern slope of Ekron, bent toward Shikkeron, passed along to Mount Baalah, and came out at Jabneel, ending at the sea.
The western boundary was the coastline of the Great Sea. These were the boundaries around the people of Judah, clan by clan.
To Caleb son of Jephunneh, Joshua gave a portion among the people of Judah, as the LORD had commanded him: Kiriath Arba, that is, Hebron—Arba being the ancestor of Anak.
Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, the descendants of Anak.
From there he went up against the inhabitants of Debir, formerly called Kiriath Sepher.
And Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Aksah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher."
Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, captured it, so Caleb gave him his daughter Aksah in marriage.
When she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. She got down from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, "What can I do for you?"
She answered, "Grant me a favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well." So he gave her the upper and lower springs.
The southernmost towns of the tribe of Judah, toward the border of Edom in the Negev, were: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,
Ziph, Telem, Bealoth,
Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain and Rimmon—twenty-nine towns in all, with their villages.
Kabbon, Lahmas, Kitlish,
Keilah, Akzib and Mareshah—nine towns with their villages.
Ashdod with its surrounding settlements and villages; and Gaza with its settlements and villages, as far as the Wadi of Egypt and the coastline of the Great Sea.
Dannah, Kiriath Sannah (that is, Debir),
Goshen, Holon and Giloh—eleven towns with their villages.
Arab, Rumah, Eshan,
Janum, Beth Tappuah, Aphekah,
Humtah, Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) and Zior—nine towns with their villages.
Maarath, Beth Anoth and Eltekon—six towns with their villages.
Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En Gedi—six towns with their villages.
The people of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; so to this day the Jebusites live there alongside the people of Judah.
