JeremiaKapitel 9

If only I had a traveler's lodge out in the wilderness, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, a pack of traitors.
They bend their tongues like bows; falsehood is their weapon. It is not for truth that they grow strong in the land. For they press on from evil to evil, and me they do not know, declares the LORD.
Guard yourselves, each of you, against your neighbor, and trust no brother; for every brother is a deceiver, and every neighbor goes about slandering.
They cheat one another, and no one speaks the truth. They have trained their tongues to lie; they wear themselves out doing wrong.
You live in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, declares the LORD.
Therefore this is what the LORD of hosts says: I will refine them and test them—what else can I do with the daughter of my people?
Their tongue is a deadly arrow; their words are deceit. With his mouth a man speaks peace to his neighbor, but inwardly he sets an ambush for him.
Shall I not punish them for such things? declares the LORD. Shall I not avenge myself on a nation like this?
For the mountains I will take up weeping and wailing, and for the wilderness pastures a lament, because they are scorched and empty, with no one passing through, and the sound of the herds is heard no more. From the birds of the sky to the animals, all have fled and are gone.
I will make Jerusalem a heap of rubble, a lair of jackals, and the cities of Judah I will make a wasteland, with no one living there.
Who is wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of the LORD spoken, that he may explain it? Why has the land been ruined, scorched like a desert where no one passes through?
And the LORD said: It is because they abandoned my law, which I set before them; they did not listen to my voice or walk by it.
Instead they followed their own stubborn hearts and went after the Baals, as their fathers taught them.
Therefore this is what the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to feed this people bitter wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink.
I will scatter them among nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send the sword after them until I have made an end of them.
This is what the LORD of hosts says: Take note—call for the women who mourn, and let them come; send for the skilled ones, and let them come.
Let them hurry and raise a lament over us, till our eyes run with tears and our eyelids stream with water.
For a sound of wailing is heard from Zion: "How we are ruined! We are utterly disgraced, for we have left the land, for our homes have been torn down."
Hear, you women, the word of the LORD; let your ears take in the word of his mouth. Teach your daughters this lament, and each one teach her neighbor this dirge:
Death has climbed in through our windows; it has entered our fortresses, cutting down the children in the streets and the young men in the squares.
Say this—thus declares the LORD: The corpses of men will lie like dung on the open field, like sheaves behind the reaper, with no one to gather them.
This is what the LORD says: Let not the wise boast of his wisdom, let not the strong boast of his strength, let not the rich boast of his riches.
But if anyone boasts, let him boast in this: that he understands and knows me—that I am the LORD, who acts with steadfast love, justice, and righteousness on the earth; for in these I delight, declares the LORD.
The days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will punish all who are circumcised only in the flesh:
Egypt, Judah, Edom, the Ammonites, Moab, and all who clip the hair at their temples, who live in the desert. For all these nations are uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is uncircumcised in heart.
