The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub, and Shimron — four in all.
The sons of Tola: Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam, and Samuel — heads of their fathers' houses. Of the line of Tola they were mighty warriors in their generations; in the days of David their number was twenty-two thousand six hundred.
The son of Uzzi: Izrahiah. The sons of Izrahiah: Michael, Obadiah, Joel, and Isshiah — five, all of them chiefs.* [*Footnote: Only four names are listed here; the total of five may include Izrahiah himself.]
Along with them, by their generations and by their fathers' houses, were fighting units of the army, thirty-six thousand strong, for they had many wives and sons.
Their kinsmen among all the clans of Issachar were mighty warriors, eighty-seven thousand in all, as recorded in their genealogies.
The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, and Jediael — three.
The sons of Bela: Ezbon, Uzzi, Uzziel, Jerimoth, and Iri — five, heads of their fathers' houses, mighty warriors. Their genealogical record numbered twenty-two thousand thirty-four.
The sons of Becher: Zemirah, Joash, Eliezer, Elioenai, Omri, Jeremoth, Abijah, Anathoth, and Alemeth — all of these were the sons of Becher.
Their genealogical record, by their generations, listed the heads of their fathers' houses, mighty warriors: twenty thousand two hundred.
The son of Jediael: Bilhan. The sons of Bilhan: Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Chenaanah, Zethan, Tarshish, and Ahishahar.
All these were the sons of Jediael, listed as heads of their fathers' houses, mighty warriors — seventeen thousand two hundred ready to march out to war.
Shuppim and Huppim were the sons of Ir; Hushim was the son of Aher.
The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, Guni, Jezer, and Shallum — the descendants of Bilhah.
The sons of Manasseh: Asriel, whom his Aramean concubine bore; she also bore Machir, the father of Gilead.
Machir took a wife from among the Huppites and Shuppites;* his sister's name was Maacah. The name of the second was Zelophehad, and Zelophehad had only daughters. [*Footnote: Or "Machir took a wife for Huppim and for Shuppim."]
Maacah, Machir's wife, bore a son and named him Peresh; his brother was named Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.
The son of Ulam: Bedan. These were the sons of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh.
His sister Hammolecheth bore Ishhod, Abiezer, and Mahlah.
The sons of Shemida were Ahian, Shechem, Likhi, and Aniam.
The descendants of Ephraim: Shuthelah, Bered his son, Tahath his son, Eleadah his son, Tahath his son,
Zabad his son, Shuthelah his son, and also Ezer and Elead, whom the men of Gath, born in that land, killed, for they had gone down to seize their livestock.
Their father Ephraim mourned for many days, and his brothers came to comfort him.
Then he went in to his wife, and she conceived and bore a son. He named him Beriah,* because disaster had struck his house. [*Footnote: The name Beriah sounds like the Hebrew phrase meaning "in misfortune."]
His daughter was Sheerah, who built Lower and Upper Beth-horon, as well as Uzzen-sheerah.
Rephah was his son, and Resheph; Telah his son, Tahan his son,
Ladan his son, Ammihud his son, Elishama his son,
Nun his son, Joshua his son.
Their holdings and settlements were Bethel and its villages, Naaran to the east, Gezer and its villages to the west, and Shechem and its villages as far as Ayyah and its villages.
Along the borders of the Manassites lay Beth-shean and its villages, Taanach and its villages, Megiddo and its villages, and Dor and its villages. In these the descendants of Joseph, the son of Israel, made their home.
The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah, with their sister Serah.
The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel, who was the father of Birzaith.
Heber fathered Japhlet, Shomer, and Hotham, and their sister Shua.
The sons of Japhlet: Pasach, Bimhal, and Ashvath. These were the sons of Japhlet.
The sons of Shemer: Ahi, Rohgah, Hubbah, and Aram.
The sons of his brother Helem: Zophah, Imna, Shelesh, and Amal.
The sons of Zophah: Suah, Harnepher, Shual, Beri, Imrah,
Bezer, Hod, Shamma, Shilshah, Ithran, and Beera.
The sons of Jether: Jephunneh, Pispah, and Ara.
The sons of Ulla: Arah, Hanniel, and Rizia.
All these were the descendants of Asher, heads of their fathers' houses, chosen men, mighty warriors, and chief among the leaders. The number enrolled for service in war was twenty-six thousand men.
