A prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place through all generations.

Before the mountains were born, before you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

You return mortals to dust, saying, "Return, you children of man."

For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, like a watch in the night.

You sweep them away like a flood; they are like sleep, like grass that springs up in the morning—

in the morning it blooms and flourishes; by evening it withers and dries up.

We are consumed by your anger, terrified by your wrath.

You set our sins before you, our secret faults in the light of your presence.

All our days pass away under your fury; we finish our years with a sigh.

Seventy years—that is the span of our life, or eighty, if we have the strength; yet even the best of them is toil and sorrow, for they pass quickly, and we fly away.

Who knows the power of your anger? Your wrath is as great as the fear you are due.

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Turn back, LORD! How long? Have compassion on your servants.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Give us joy for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.

Let your work be seen by your servants, and your splendor by their children.

May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands—yes, establish the work of our hands.
