HoseaChapter 7

Whenever I would heal Israel, the guilt of Ephraim is uncovered, and the evils of Samaria; for they practice deceit — the thief breaks in, and raiders plunder outside in the streets.
They never say in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their deeds surround them; they stand before my face.
With their wickedness they delight the king, and with their lies the officials.
They are all adulterers, like an oven heated by the baker, who stops stirring the fire while he kneads the dough and waits for it to rise.
On the day of our king the officials sicken themselves with the heat of wine; he stretches out his hand with the mockers.
For they draw near with hearts like an oven, while they lie in wait. All night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.
They are all as hot as an oven, and they devour their rulers. All their kings have fallen; none of them calls upon me.
Ephraim mixes himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a flat cake not turned over.
Strangers devour his strength, and he does not know it; gray hairs are scattered upon him, and he does not know it.
Israel's pride testifies against him, yet they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him, for all this.
Ephraim has become like a dove, silly and senseless — calling to Egypt, going off to Assyria.
As they go, I will spread my net over them; I will bring them down like birds of the sky. I will discipline them as their congregation has been told.
Woe to them, for they have strayed from me! Ruin to them, for they have rebelled against me! I would redeem them, but they speak lies against me.
They do not cry out to me from the heart, but wail upon their beds; they gash themselves for grain and new wine, and turn away from me.
I trained them and strengthened their arms, yet they plot evil against me.
They turn back, but not to the One above; they are like a slack bow. Their officials shall fall by the sword because of the rage of their tongues. For this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
