Woe to you, destroyer, who have not been destroyed; you traitor, whom no one has betrayed! When you finish destroying, you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying, you will be betrayed.

LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be their arm every morning, our salvation in time of distress.

At the sound of the tumult the peoples flee; when you rise up, the nations scatter.

Your plunder is gathered as young locusts gather; like a swarm of locusts they rush upon it.

The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.

He will be the sure foundation of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is Zion's treasure.

Look, their heroes cry aloud in the streets; the envoys of peace weep bitterly.

The highways lie deserted; no traveler is on the road. The treaty is broken, the cities are despised, and no one is held in regard.

The land mourns and languishes; Lebanon is ashamed and withers away. Sharon has become like the desert, and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

"Now I will arise," says the LORD. "Now I will lift myself up; now I will be exalted.

You conceive chaff, you give birth to straw; your breath is a fire that will devour you.

The peoples will be burned to lime, like thornbushes cut down and set ablaze.

Hear, you who are far off, what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge my might.

The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: "Who among us can dwell with a devouring fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting flames?"

The one who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hands from taking bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against looking on evil—

he will dwell on the heights; his refuge will be a fortress of rock. His bread will be given him, and his water will not fail.

Your eyes will see the king in his beauty and behold a land that stretches far away.

Your heart will ponder the former terror: "Where is the scribe? Where is the one who weighed the tribute? Where is the officer who counted the towers?"

You will no longer see that insolent people, that people of obscure speech beyond understanding, stammering in a tongue you cannot grasp.

Look on Zion, the city of our appointed feasts; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful home, a tent that will not be moved. Its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken.

But there the LORD in his majesty will be for us a place of broad rivers and streams, where no galley with oars will travel and no mighty ship will pass.

For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

Your rigging hangs slack: the mast is not held firm, the sail is not spread. Then an abundance of spoil will be divided, and even the lame will carry off plunder.

And no one living there will say, "I am sick"; the people who dwell in her will be forgiven their sin.
