The righteous man perishes, and no one takes it to heart; the faithful are swept away, and no one understands that the righteous is taken away from the face of evil.
He enters into peace; they rest on their beds, all who walk in uprightness.
But you, come here, you children of a sorceress, offspring of an adulterer and a prostitute!
At whom are you sneering? At whom do you open your mouth wide and stick out your tongue? Are you not children of rebellion, offspring of lies—
you who burn with lust among the oaks, under every green tree, who slaughter your children in the ravines, under the clefts of the rocks?
Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion; they, they are your lot. To them you poured out a drink offering, to them you brought your grain offering. Should I relent because of this?
On a high and lofty mountain you spread your bed, and there you went up to offer your sacrifice.
Behind the door and the doorpost you set up your idol. Turning away from me, you stripped yourself bare, you climbed up and made your bed wide; you struck your bargain with them, you loved their bed and gazed on their nakedness.
You went to the king with oil and heaped up your perfumes; you sent your envoys far away and went down as low as the grave.
You wore yourself out on your many roads, yet you never said, "It is hopeless." You found new strength for your hand, and so you did not grow weak.
Whom did you so dread and fear that you lied, and did not remember me or take it to heart? Is it not because I have kept silent, and that for so long, that you no longer fear me?
I myself will expose your righteousness and your deeds, and they will not help you.
When you cry out, let your collection of idols save you! The wind will carry them all off, a mere breath will sweep them away. But whoever takes refuge in me will inherit the land and possess my holy mountain.
And it will be said: Build up, build up, clear the road! Remove every obstacle from the way of my people.
For this is what the high and exalted One says, who lives forever, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with the one who is crushed and humble in spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the crushed.
For I will not accuse forever, nor will I always be angry; otherwise the spirit would fail before me, the very breath of life that I have made.
Because of his sinful greed I was angry; I struck him, I hid my face and was angry, yet he kept turning away, going his own willful way.
I have seen his ways, and I will heal him; I will lead him and give him comfort in full measure, him and those who mourn with him,
I create the word on the lips: Peace, peace to those far off and to those near, says the LORD, and I will heal him.
But the wicked are like the churning sea that cannot be still, whose waters toss up mire and mud.
"There is no peace," says my God, "for the wicked."
