NehemiahChapter 12

These are the priests and Levites who came up with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and with Jeshua: Seraiah, Jeremiah, Ezra,
Amariah, Malluch, Hattush,
Shecaniah, Rehum, Meremoth,
Iddo, Ginnethoi, Abijah,
Mijamin, Maadiah, Bilgah,
Shemaiah, Joiarib, Jedaiah,
Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, and Jedaiah. These were the heads of the priests and of their kinsmen in the days of Jeshua.
And the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who together with his kinsmen was in charge of the songs of thanksgiving,
while Bakbukiah and Unni, their kinsmen, stood opposite them in the services.
Jeshua fathered Joiakim, Joiakim fathered Eliashib, Eliashib fathered Joiada,
Joiada fathered Jonathan, and Jonathan fathered Jaddua.
In the days of Joiakim these were the priests who were heads of the fathers' houses: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah;
of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan;
of Malluch, Jonathan; of Shebaniah, Joseph;
of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai;
of Iddo, Zechariah; of Ginnethon, Meshullam;
of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin and of Moadiah, Piltai;
of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemaiah, Jehonathan;
of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi;
of Sallai, Kallai; of Amok, Eber;
of Hilkiah, Hashabiah; of Jedaiah, Nethanel.
As for the Levites, in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua, the heads of the fathers' houses were recorded, as were the priests, down to the reign of Darius the Persian.
The sons of Levi who were heads of the fathers' houses were recorded in the Book of the Chronicles until the days of Johanan son of Eliashib.
The leaders of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua son of Kadmiel, with their kinsmen standing opposite them, to praise and give thanks according to the command of David the man of God, watch answering watch.
Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, and Akkub were gatekeepers, standing guard at the storerooms by the gates.
These served in the days of Joiakim son of Jeshua, son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor and of Ezra the priest and scribe.
At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, the Levites were sought out from all their settlements and brought to Jerusalem to celebrate the dedication with rejoicing, with thanksgivings and singing, with cymbals, harps, and lyres.
So the sons of the singers gathered from the district around Jerusalem, from the villages of the Netophathites,
from Beth-gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth, for the singers had built themselves villages around Jerusalem.
The priests and the Levites purified themselves, and they purified the people, the gates, and the wall.
Then I brought the leaders of Judah up onto the wall and appointed two great choirs of thanksgiving. One went to the right along the top of the wall toward the Dung Gate,
and behind them went Hoshaiah and half the leaders of Judah,
along with Azariah, Ezra, Meshullam,
Judah, Benjamin, Shemaiah, and Jeremiah,
and some of the priests' sons with trumpets: Zechariah son of Jonathan, son of Shemaiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Micaiah, son of Zaccur, son of Asaph,
and his kinsmen Shemaiah, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God; and Ezra the scribe went before them.
At the Fountain Gate they went straight up the steps of the city of David, by the ascent of the wall, and passed above the house of David to the Water Gate on the east.
The second choir of thanksgiving went to the left, and I followed it with half the people, along the top of the wall above the Tower of the Ovens to the Broad Wall,
then above the Gate of Ephraim, past the Old Gate and the Fish Gate, the Tower of Hananel and the Tower of the Hundred, to the Sheep Gate; and they came to a halt at the Gate of the Guard.
So the two choirs of thanksgiving took their places in the house of God, and I with them, along with half the officials,
and the priests Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets,
and Maaseiah, Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, Jehohanan, Malchijah, Elam, and Ezer. The singers sang out, with Jezrahiah as their director.
That day they offered great sacrifices and rejoiced, for God had given them great joy. The women and the children rejoiced as well, and the joy of Jerusalem was heard far away.
On that day men were appointed over the storerooms that served as treasuries for the contributions, the firstfruits, and the tithes, to gather into them from the fields of the towns the portions prescribed by the law for the priests and the Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and the Levites who were serving.
They kept the charge of their God and the charge of purification, as did the singers and the gatekeepers, according to the command of David and of Solomon his son.
For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there were directors of the singers, and there were songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.
And in the days of Zerubbabel and in the days of Nehemiah, all Israel gave the daily portions for the singers and the gatekeepers. They set apart what was due to the Levites, and the Levites set apart what was due to the sons of Aaron.
