9This, then, is how you should pray: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

10your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

11Give us today our daily bread.

12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."

2He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.

3Give us each day our daily bread.

4And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation."

Once he was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."
He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation."
Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
because a friend of mine has arrived from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him.'
And suppose he answers from inside, 'Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are in bed with me. I can't get up and give you anything.'
I tell you, even if he will not get up and give him anything simply because the man is his friend, yet because of his shameless persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.
So I say to you: ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks the door will be opened.
Which father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish?
Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were amazed.
But some of them said, "It is by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons, that he drives out demons."
Others, to test him, kept demanding a sign from heaven.
But he knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.
If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? For you say that I drive out demons by Beelzebul.
And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your own people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges.
But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are secure.
But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he strips him of the armor he trusted in and divides up his plunder.
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it wanders through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, 'I will go back to my house, the one I came out of.'
Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they come in and settle there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first."
As he was saying these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts that nursed you!"
But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it."
As the crowds pressed in around him, he began to say, "This generation is an evil generation. It demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.
For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
The queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon — and look, something greater than Solomon is here.
The men of Nineveh will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah — and look, something greater than Jonah is here.
No one lights a lamp and puts it in a cellar or under a basket. Instead, he sets it on a stand, so that those who come in may see the light.
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is clear, your whole body is full of light; but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness.
So take care that the light in you is not darkness.
If then your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be wholly radiant, as when a lamp shines its beam on you."
As he was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to dine with him, so he went in and reclined at the table.
The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before the meal.
But the Lord said to him, "You Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.
You fools! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside as well?
But give as alms what is within, and behold, everything is clean for you.
But woe to you Pharisees! You tithe mint and rue and every herb, yet you neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seat in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces.
Woe to you! You are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without knowing it."
One of the experts in the law answered him, "Teacher, when you say these things you insult us too."
He said, "Woe to you experts in the law as well! You load people down with burdens hard to carry, and you yourselves do not lift a finger to touch those burdens.
Woe to you! You build the tombs of the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them.
So you are witnesses who approve of what your fathers did: they killed them, and you build their tombs.
For this reason the wisdom of God said: 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,'
so that this generation will be charged with the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world,
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held accountable.
Woe to you experts in the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter, and you hindered those who were entering."
As he went out from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to interrogate him about many things,
lying in wait to catch him in something he might say.
