22One day he got into a boat with his disciples and said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side of the lake." So they set out.

23As they sailed, he fell asleep. A violent squall came down on the lake, and the boat was filling up, and they were in danger.

24They went to him and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they subsided, and there was a calm.

25Then he said to them, "Where is your faith?" Filled with fear and amazement, they said to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?"

1When Jesus had finished saying all this in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.

2A centurion there had a servant whom he valued highly, and the man was sick and about to die.

3When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and save his servant's life.

4They came to Jesus and pleaded with him earnestly: "He deserves to have you do this for him,

5for he loves our nation, and he himself built our synagogue."

6So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.

7That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.

8For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

9When Jesus heard this, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him he said, "I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith."

10And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.

26They sailed on to the region of the Gerasenes, which lies across the lake from Galilee.

27As he stepped ashore, a man from the town who was possessed by demons met him. For a long time he had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among the tombs.

28When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, shouting at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!"

29For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him; he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the wilderness.

30Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "Legion," he said, for many demons had entered him.

31And they begged him not to order them to go into the abyss.

32A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, and the demons begged Jesus to let them enter the pigs. He gave them permission.

33So the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned.

34When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported it in the town and in the countryside.

35People went out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting at Jesus' feet, clothed and in his right mind—and they were afraid.

36Those who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been healed.

37Then the whole crowd from the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned.

38The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,

39"Return home and tell how much God has done for you." So he went and proclaimed throughout the whole town how much Jesus had done for him.
