Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that fills it, the world and everything it brings forth.
For the LORD is enraged at all the nations, furious with all their armies. He has doomed them to destruction, handed them over to the slaughter.
Their slain will be thrown out, and the stench of their corpses will rise; the mountains will dissolve with their blood.
All the host of heaven will waste away, and the sky will be rolled up like a scroll. All their host will wither, as a leaf withers on the vine, as fruit shrivels on the fig tree.
For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens. Look, it descends on Edom, on the people I have doomed, to bring judgment.
The sword of the LORD is soaked with blood, gorged with fat—the blood of lambs and goats, the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
Wild oxen will go down with them, young bulls along with the mighty. Their land will drink its fill of blood, and their dust will be soaked with fat.
For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to take up Zion's cause.
Edom's streams will turn to pitch, her dust to sulfur; her land will become burning tar.
Night and day it will not be quenched; its smoke will rise forever. From generation to generation it will lie waste; no one will ever pass through it again.
The desert owl and the screech owl will possess it; the great owl and the raven will make their home there. The LORD will stretch out over it the measuring line of chaos and the plumb line of desolation.
Her nobles will have nothing left to call a kingdom; all her princes will come to nothing.
Thorns will overrun her palaces, nettles and brambles her fortresses. She will become a haunt for jackals, a home for ostriches.
Desert creatures will meet with hyenas, and wild goats will call to one another. There too the night creature will settle and find herself a resting place.
There the owl will nest and lay her eggs, hatch them and gather her brood under her shadow. There too the falcons will gather, each with her mate.
Search the scroll of the LORD and read: not one of these will be missing, not one will lack her mate. For his own mouth has commanded it, and his breath has gathered them.
He has cast the lot for them; his hand has measured out their portions. They will possess it forever and dwell there from generation to generation.
