Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols are loaded on beasts and cattle. The things you carry in procession are a burden, a load for the weary.
They stoop and bow down together; they cannot save the load, and they themselves go off into captivity.
Listen to me, house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel—you whom I have carried since birth, whom I have borne since the womb.
Even to your old age I am the same, and to your gray hairs I will carry you. I have made you, and I will bear you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
To whom will you compare me, or count me equal? To whom will you liken me, that we should be alike?
They pour out gold from the purse and weigh silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and then they kneel and bow down to it.
They lift it to their shoulders and haul it; they set it in its place, and there it stands—it cannot move from its spot. Someone cries out to it, and it does not answer; it cannot save him from his distress.
Remember this and stand firm; take it to heart, you rebels.
Remember the former things, those of long ago: I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.
I declare the end from the beginning, from ancient times what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.
I summon a bird of prey from the east, from a distant land a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, I will bring about; what I have planned, I will do.
Listen to me, you stubborn of heart, you who are far from righteousness.
I am bringing my righteousness near—it is not far off; my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation in Zion, and my splendor to Israel.
