But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you cross the rivers, they will not sweep you away. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not consume you.

For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place.

Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, peoples in exchange for your life.

Do not be afraid, for I am with you. From the east I will bring your offspring, and from the west I will gather you.

I will say to the north, "Give them up," and to the south, "Do not hold them back." Bring my sons from far away and my daughters from the ends of the earth—

everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.

Bring out the people who are blind, yet have eyes, who are deaf, yet have ears.

Let all the nations gather together, let the peoples assemble. Which of them foretold this and announced to us the former things? Let them produce their witnesses and be proved right; let them listen and say, "It is true."

You are my witnesses, declares the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, and after me there will be none.

I, I am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.

It was I who revealed and saved and proclaimed; no foreign god was among you. You are my witnesses, declares the LORD, that I am God.

From eternity I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?

This is what the LORD says, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring them all down as fugitives, the Chaldeans in the ships that were their pride.

I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel's Creator, your King.

This is what the LORD says—he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,

who drew out chariot and horse, army and warrior together, and they lay down, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

Do not dwell on the former things; do not ponder what happened long ago.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

The wild animals will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,

the people I formed for myself, that they might declare my praise.

Yet you have not called on me, Jacob; you have grown weary of me, Israel.

You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with grain offerings or wearied you with demands for incense.

You have not bought me sweet cane with silver, nor satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices. Instead you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your iniquities.

I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

Remind me; let us argue the case together. State your side, that you may be proved right.

Your first father sinned, and those who spoke for you rebelled against me.

So I disgraced the officials of the sanctuary; I consigned Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn.

Babylon (v. 14) is mentioned directly as the target of God's judgment. The Hebrew phrase בָּאֳנִיּוֹת רִנָּתָם is textually challenging and may mean "in the ships [that were] their joy/pride." Babylon was located by the Euphrates River and had an extensive canal system, making ships symbols of their commercial power.
