JoshuaChapter 24

Then Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders of Israel, their leaders, their judges, and their officers, and they presented themselves before God.
And Joshua said to all the people, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Long ago your ancestors lived beyond the River—Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor—and they served other gods.
But I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan. I multiplied his offspring and gave him Isaac,
and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the hill country of Seir as his possession, while Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.
Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I struck Egypt with plagues by all that I did there; and afterward I brought you out.
I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, and you came to the sea. The Egyptians pursued your ancestors with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.
They cried out to the LORD, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians; he brought the sea over them and covered them. Your own eyes saw what I did in Egypt. Then you lived in the wilderness a long time.
I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan. They fought against you, but I gave them into your hands; you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you.
Then Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel. He sent and called for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,
You crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The citizens of Jericho fought against you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites; but I gave them into your hands.
I sent the hornet ahead of you, and it drove them out before you—the two kings of the Amorites. It was not by your sword or your bow.
I gave you a land you had not labored for and cities you had not built, and you have settled in them; you eat from vineyards and olive groves you did not plant.
"Now therefore, fear the LORD and serve him with integrity and faithfulness. Put away the gods your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.
But if serving the LORD seems wrong in your eyes, then choose today whom you will serve—whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
For the LORD our God is the one who brought us and our ancestors up out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who performed those great signs before our eyes. He protected us on the whole journey we traveled and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed.
And the LORD drove out before us all the peoples, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, for he is our God."
But Joshua said to the people, "You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your rebellion and your sins.
Then Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve him." And they said, "We are witnesses."
"Now then, put away the foreign gods that are among you, and turn your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel."
And the people said to Joshua, "We will serve the LORD our God, and we will obey his voice."
Joshua recorded these words in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that stood by the sanctuary of the LORD.
And Joshua said to all the people, "Look, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the LORD spoke to us. It will be a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God."
After these things, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten.
They buried him within the territory of his inheritance at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.
Israel served the LORD throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had known all that the LORD had done for Israel.
The bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the plot of ground Jacob had bought from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for a hundred pieces of silver. It became the inheritance of Joseph's descendants.
Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which belonged to his son Phinehas and had been given to him in the hill country of Ephraim.
