Of David. To you, LORD, I lift up my soul.

My God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame, and let my enemies not gloat over me.

Yes, none who wait for you will be put to shame; but those who betray without cause will be put to shame.

Show me your ways, LORD; teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.

Remember your mercy, LORD, and your steadfast love, for they are from of old.

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my rebellions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, LORD.

Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

He guides the humble in what is right and teaches the humble his way.

All the paths of the LORD are love and faithfulness for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

For the sake of your name, LORD, forgive my guilt, for it is great.

Who is the one who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.

He will live out his days in prosperity, and his offspring will inherit the land.

The LORD confides in those who fear him, and he makes his covenant known to them.

My eyes are always on the LORD, for he will pull my feet out of the net.

Turn to me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and afflicted.

The troubles of my heart have multiplied; bring me out of my distresses.

See my affliction and my toil, and take away all my sins.

See how many my enemies are, and with what violent hatred they hate me.

Guard my soul and deliver me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.

May integrity and uprightness watch over me, for I wait for you.

Redeem Israel, O God, out of all its troubles.

The Hebrew word sod (סוֹד) in verse 14, often translated as "intimacy" or "secret counsel", denotes an intimate council chamber or confidential fellowship. Here it describes the close relationship between God and the godly. The phrase chaṭṭo'ot ne'uray (חַטֹּאות נְעוּרַי) in verse 7, "my youthful sins", reflects an understanding that the missteps of youth should not be held against someone who has matured in faithfulness to the covenant.
