For the choirmaster. A psalm of David.
In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, deliver me.
Turn your ear to me; come quickly to my rescue. Be my rock of refuge, a fortress to save me.
For you are my rock and my stronghold; for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me.
Free me from the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge.
Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, LORD, God of truth.
I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I put my trust in the LORD.
I will rejoice and be glad in your mercy, for you have seen my affliction and known the distress of my soul.
You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a place of freedom.
Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is worn out with grief, my soul and my body as well.
My life is spent in sorrow and my years in sighing; my strength fails because of my guilt, and my bones waste away.
To all my foes I am an object of scorn, and to my neighbors even more; I am a horror to my friends. Those who see me in the street flee from me.
I am forgotten, out of mind like the dead; I have become like a broken vessel.
For I hear the whispering of many; terror surrounds me as they conspire against me and plot to take my life.
But I trust in you, LORD; I say, "You are my God."
My times are in your hand; deliver me from the grip of my enemies and from those who pursue me.
Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your mercy.
LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I have called on you. Let the wicked be put to shame; let them be silenced in the grave.
Let lying lips be struck dumb, that speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt.
How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and shown to those who take refuge in you, in the sight of everyone.
In the shelter of your presence you hide them from human plots; you keep them safe in your tent from quarreling tongues.
Blessed be the LORD, for he has shown me the wonder of his mercy in a city under siege.
In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight." Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.
Love the LORD, all you his faithful ones. The LORD preserves those who are true, but he repays in full the one who acts in pride.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD.
