Of David. Vindicate me, LORD, for I have walked in my integrity; I have trusted in the LORD; I will not be shaken.

Examine me, LORD, and test me; refine my heart and mind.

For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your truth.

I do not sit with deceivers, nor keep company with hypocrites.

I hate the assembly of evildoers, and I will not sit with the wicked.

I wash my hands in innocence and walk around your altar, LORD,

lifting my voice in thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders.

LORD, I love the house where you dwell, the place where your glory abides.

Do not sweep away my soul with sinners, nor my life with men of blood,

in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right hands are filled with bribes.

But as for me, I walk in my integrity; redeem me and be merciful to me.

My foot stands on level ground; in the assemblies I will bless the LORD.

This reflects actual practice in temple service, where priests washed their hands and feet in the bronze basin before approaching the altar (Exodus 30:18–21). Processions around the altar were part of festival celebrations, especially the Feast of Tabernacles, when pilgrims walked in procession around the altar while singing songs of praise. The psalmist uses this ritual language to express his moral purity and belonging to the holy community.

The expression "the dwelling of your house" and "the place where your glory dwells" (verse 8) refer to the tabernacle or temple as God's earthly residence.
