A song of ascents. To you I lift up my eyes, to you whose throne is in the heavens.

See how the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, how the eyes of a servant girl look to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to the LORD our God, until he shows us mercy.

Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have had our fill of contempt.

Our soul has had far more than its fill of the scorn of the complacent, of the contempt of the arrogant.
