For the choirmaster. On the gittith. A psalm of the sons of Korah.<note>Gittith: probably a musical term, perhaps a tune or an instrument; the meaning is uncertain.</note>

How lovely are your dwelling places, LORD of hosts!

My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for joy to the living God.

Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young — at your altars, LORD of hosts, my King and my God.

Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are always praising you. Selah

Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose hearts are the pilgrim highways.<note>Hebrew reads simply "highways in their hearts"; the image is of roads leading up to the sanctuary, hence the sense of a pilgrim's journey.</note>

As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the early rain covers it with blessings.

They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah

Look upon our shield, O God; look with favor on the face of your anointed.

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you.
