This is the blessing with which Moses, the man of God, blessed the Israelites before his death.
He said: The LORD came from Sinai and dawned upon them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran and came with ten thousands of holy ones, with flaming fire at his right hand, a law for them.[^1] [^1]: The last line of the Hebrew is uncertain; it may be read "fire of law" or "a fiery law."
Truly he loves the peoples; all his holy ones are in your hand. They sat down at your feet; each receives your words.
And this he said of Judah: Hear, O LORD, the cry of Judah, and bring him back to his people. With his own hands he contends for himself; be his help against his foes.
Of Levi he said: Your Thummim and your Urim belong to your faithful one, whom you tested at Massah and contended with at the waters of Meribah.
He said of his father and mother, "I have no regard for them." He did not acknowledge his brothers or recognize his own children, for the Levites kept your word and guarded your covenant.
They teach your judgments to Jacob and your law to Israel. They offer incense before you and whole burnt offerings on your altar.
Bless his strength, O LORD, and accept the work of his hands. Strike down those who rise against him, and let his enemies never rise again.
Of Benjamin he said: The beloved of the LORD dwells in safety beside him; the LORD shelters him all day long, and Benjamin rests between his shoulders.
Of Joseph he said: May the LORD bless his land with the best gifts of heaven above, with the dew, and with the deep waters that lie below;
with the best gifts of the earth and its fullness, and the favor of him who dwelt in the burning bush. Let all this rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.
In majesty he is like a firstborn bull; his horns are the horns of a wild ox. With them he will gore the nations, even those at the ends of the earth. Such are the ten thousands of Ephraim; such are the thousands of Manasseh.
They summon peoples to the mountain; there they offer the sacrifices of righteousness. They feast on the abundance of the seas and on the treasures hidden in the sand.
Of Gad he said: Blessed is he who enlarges Gad! He lies down like a lion, tearing off the arm and the head.
He chose the best land for himself; the leader's portion was kept for him. When the heads of the people assembled, he carried out the LORD's righteous will and his judgments concerning Israel.
Of Naphtali he said: Naphtali is rich in favor and full of the LORD's blessing; he shall take possession of the sea and the south.
Your gates will have bars of iron and bronze, and your strength will match your days.
There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides the heavens to help you, who rides the clouds in his majesty.
The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He drove out the enemy before you and said, "Destroy them!"
So Israel dwells in safety, set apart, Jacob's fountain secure, in a land of grain and new wine, where his heavens drop their dew.
Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is the shield that helps you and the sword of your triumph. Your enemies will cringe before you, and you will tread on their high places.
