A song of ascents. Of David. If the LORD had not been on our side—let Israel say it—

if the LORD had not been on our side when people rose against us,

then they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger blazed against us.

Then the waters would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us;

over us would have swept the raging waters.

Blessed be the LORD, who did not give us up as prey to their teeth.

We have escaped like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.
